Sue Foley's "ONE GUITAR WOMAN” - is a show devoted to the female pioneers of guitar. These are the women who were expressing themselves through the instrument as far back as the 1920's, at the inception of radio and recorded music. Icons like Maybelle Carter, Memphis Minnie, Mary Osborne, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and more. Sue Foley is a virtual triple threat as a lead guitarist, singer and songwriter. Foley spent her early childhood in Canada, mesmerized by her father’s guitar and started her professional career at sixteen. By twenty-one, she was living in Austin, TX and recording for Antone’s—the esteemed blues label and historic nightclub that helped launch the career of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Foley just won the Blues Music Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist (Koko Taylor Award) in Memphis TN -- an award she also won in 2022 and 2020. She was also recently honored with Guitarist of the Year and Blues Act of the Year at the at the 2023 Austin Music Awards, and Guitarist of the Year at the 2023 Maple Blues Awards. Celebrating these women of excellence, passion, and accomplishment, Sue presents an evening of varied guitar styles and musical genres interspersed with their history and stories, all tied together with her own personal narrative.
“It’s time to consider Foley among the very top tier of blues stars” - Bob Mersereau, CBC Radio 1
“Foley has a killer voice... to go with those blazing guitar chops.” — Philadelphia Inquirer
